Vertical Panorama Pavilion

After Studio Other Spaces — Olafur Eliasson and Sebastian Behmann. The Donum Estate, Sonoma, California, 2022. Independent interpretation, not an official venue experience.

Documented features

The estate describes a canopy of 832 glass panels in 24 colours, organised around a north-facing oculus. The colours refer to local meteorological conditions. Its hilltop setting overlooks vineyard land and San Pablo Bay.

The glass supplier documents a 14.5-metre diameter, 12 support columns, and three excavated circular areas of 13, 19 and 5 square metres. The approach descends beside glazed brickwork. These published values guide the canopy and room sizes here.

Reference inspection

Estimated geometry and route

The model uses 64 sectors and 13 rings to produce exactly 832 panes. Their colour sequence approximates the photographs; the original weather dataset is not reproduced. The oculus offset, 6.2-metre upper edge, 2.4-metre eave and 1.2-metre excavation depth are visual estimates. The canopy’s fine engineering, glazing optics and support junctions are simplified.

The three room centres and connecting passages are interpreted from imagery. The approach is continuous and descends into the arrival space, which connects to the furnished tasting area and small service recess. Users may return along the same route and explore outside; retaining walls, supports and furniture block passage. This represents a navigable interpretation rather than a verified complete visitor plan or a claim about public access to service areas at the venue.

Landscape, sunlight and media

Close grasses, tree crowns, trellised vines, estate architecture, hills and the bay are original procedural scenery. Their location and appearance are approximate; this is not a surveyed reconstruction of the estate or its art collection.

The daylight control changes the sun, sky and shadows. A separate light-space pass projects the actual pane colours onto opaque surfaces. Glass is rendered with transparency and approximate sky reflections. Neither the calendar, glazing transmittance nor seasonal solar positions are scientifically calibrated. Night is an illustrative dark state, not a documented lighting installation.

No source photographs, video frames, textures or audio are redistributed. Reference media is linked, and all displayed geometry and materials are generated locally.
