SunForceOceanLife

After Ernesto Neto’s installation at Cullinan Hall, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. This walkthrough interprets its March 8–September 7, 2026 return.

Verified details

The museum’s 2026 exhibition page confirms a visitor-accessible network of hand-woven passages suspended about 12 feet (3.66 m) above the floor. It describes yellow, green and orange crochet, and soft plastic balls that shift underfoot. Ground-level viewing and optional entry into the suspended passages are both explicitly permitted by the museum, subject to its physical-exhibition access requirements.

In an artist interview reproduced by his gallery, Neto describes a spiral galaxy with two descending arms used to enter and leave. He explains the colour progression from a red centre through orange and yellow to green at the floor, and green nuclei within crocheted wall cells.

What was visually inspected

The two installation images on the museum’s current page show rounded netted floors, tall open woven walls, coloured cell patterns, hanging cords, pale gallery walls, speckled flooring and a ceiling lighting grid. Their captions date the artwork to 2020; they are not independently established as photographs of the 2026 rehang. The gallery’s 2021 installation documentation provides a wide view of the two descending arms, suspended spiral and ceiling supports.

The supplied 32-second official MFAH film was inspected, including the close view around 0:19–0:20 showing feet on rounded crochet and irregular open wall loops. The second 16-second reference is uploaded by Michael Bergeron, rather than the museum; it was not treated as verified official reinstallation documentation. Neither short film establishes every junction or exact coordinates of a complete route.

Scale and route assumptions

Movement and accessibility

Optional gentle movement applies a small localized oscillation to the crochet and floor balls near a moving visitor, with less than 3 cm of camera movement. It approximates softness; it is not a cloth or ball-contact physics simulation. The control is disabled initially when the browser requests reduced motion and can be switched off at any time. Standard keyboard, mouse, pointer-lock and touch navigation are provided.

Media use

All geometry, materials and the catalogue thumbnail are generated by this project. No reference photos, video frames, audio or other third-party media are distributed. Photographs and film are linked to their publishers for attribution and further study. This is an independent interpretation, not an official digital twin.
