Delcy Morelos · Dia Chelsea, New York · 2023–2024
This independent spatial interpretation depicts the tall monolith El abrazo, not the separate soil-coated room Cielo terrenal. Dia confirms the two works and the exhibition dates, October 5, 2023–July 20, 2024. The photographs show inclined, densely fibrous earth faces, a shadow gap at the base, concrete flooring, timber decking and joists, iron cross-bracing, skylights, white masonry and exposed brick.
The Artishock photographs credited to Don Stahl were inspected as references. The supplied ARTEFUSE film was sampled within its opening Dia Chelsea chapter: the opening views show earth and straw, perimeter circulation and roof structure; later sampled views show Cielo terrenal. This was not a continuous survey of every camera position. No complete measured plan was found.
Dia describes a monolith hovering above the floor. The Momus account specifically describes an inward, narrowing triangular passage, and Louis Bury’s review describes entering only partway. The model therefore has a perimeter loop and a dead-end cleft, entered and exited from the same side. It does not invent a through-route, climbing, or access beneath the work.
| Element | Model choice and confidence |
|---|---|
| Artwork material | Verified: garden soil, clay, hay/straw and coir. Procedural surfaces and approximately 60,000 bent fibres suggest this; they are not a scan. |
| Height | Estimated 5.37 m. Relative floor-to-roof scale follows the images; no published numeric artwork dimensions were located. |
| Gallery | Estimated 14 × 23 m envelope, roof lanterns at 6.6 m. Bay counts, fixtures, masonry, door and radiator details are interpretive. |
| Monolith | Estimated 9.8 × 17.2 m footprint; a 2.5 m entrance narrows toward a closed tip. Exact notch length, opening position and cross-section are approximations. |
| Visitor route | Perimeter access and partial entry supported by accounts; clearances are estimated and constrained with a 0.30 m collision radius plus material allowance. |
| Light | Fixed, restrained skylight with warm roof illumination. Exposure and spatial light falloff are artistic approximations, not measured photometry. |
All displayed geometry, material patterns and the catalogue thumbnail are generated for this project. No photographs, film stills, audio, or third-party textures are redistributed. Source links allow visitors to view the publishers’ original documentation. Scent, touch, humidity and the work’s bodily presence cannot be reproduced in a browser. The installation is not an architectural survey or an official Dia reproduction.
